DESCRIPTION
The Atomic Backland 95 is a ski touring ski designed for those who want to cover ground on the ascent without sacrificing a satisfying descent. With a 95 mm waist width, it finds its optimal dimension on firm and mixed snow, but also handles powder well on lucky off-piste days.
Construction and materials
The internal structure combines a paulownia wood sandwich with carbon and glass fiber reinforcements, a solution that reduces weight without sacrificing the torsional stiffness necessary on descents. The Early Rise profile at the tip and tail facilitates turn initiation and reduces effort on the ascent, while the slightly lowered tail geometry maintains maneuverability on hard snow. The low weight — approximately 1,450 g per 177 cm ski — makes every meter of elevation gain less burdensome without the feeling of skiing on a race ski lacking substance.
Performance and use
- Turn radius ~17 m at 177 cm: versatile on steep and traverse slopes
- Compatible with frame, tech, and hybrid bindings thanks to the universal platform
- Raised tip and tail to reduce the risk of catching on uneven terrain
- Available in lengths from 161 to 184 cm to suit different technical profiles
The ideal choice for alpine ski touring outings on challenging routes where gaining altitude matters as much as the quality of the descent: light enough not to weigh you down on long approaches, stable enough not to require compromises once the skins are removed.
Fit
Available lengths: 185 cm. Atomic's recommendations for ski touring: all-round ski about 5 cm shorter than your height, fast & light ski 5 to 10 cm shorter, freeride touring ski equal to your height or up to 5 cm longer. The shorter it is, the more agile it is in turns; the longer it is, the more stable and better it floats.
To pair with: Atomic Backland 95 Skin Ski Touring Skins, Atomic Backland Tour Ski Touring Binding - Skistopper 100 mm, Atomic Backland XTD Carbon 120 Men's Ski Touring Boot
