DESCRIPTION
The Wild Country Friend 3.0 is an active cam protection device for crack climbing, a direct descendant of the invention that radically transformed the approach to traditional climbing. Introduced by Wild Country in the late 70s, the Friend is the first mechanical cam device in history, and this size 3.0 model covers an expansion range between 52 and 90 mm, making it ideal for medium-large cracks, typical of granite, sandstone, or dolomite.
Construction and Technology
The mechanism is based on four independent, high-strength aluminum alloy cams, with a constant contact angle that ensures reliable grip even on parallel or slightly flared walls. The rigid stainless steel stem offers stability during placement and facilitates extraction even after a fall. The trigger—the actuation lever—is ergonomic and responds precisely even with gloves or fatigued hands.
