The Mountain Equipment Eclipse Beanie is an ultra-thin technical beanie designed for those who want warmth without compromising fit under a helmet. Weighing just 30 grams, it's virtually imperceptible on your head, making it ideal both as a standalone insulating layer in mid-seasons and as a thermal layer paired with ski, climbing, or cycling helmets.
Material and Construction
The cap is made from Pontetorto® Tecnostretch 187, an Italian technical fleece composed of 92% polyester and 8% elastane. This combination ensures effective heat management without moisture build-up, thanks to the fabric's quick-drying properties. The elastane content provides a snug and close-fitting wear that doesn't create unwanted folds or bulk when wearing a helmet.
Who and when to use it
Its extreme thinness makes it particularly popular for activities like ski mountaineering, ice climbing, and winter cycling, where the space between the head and helmet is minimal. It works equally well for trail running and high-altitude mountaineering during transitional seasons, when lightweight thermal protection and freedom of movement are needed.
