DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Stopper #10 are passive aluminum protection devices, individually forged to ensure precise geometry and optimal contact with the rock. Compared to classic stoppers with a symmetrical cross-section, this version features a slightly asymmetrical (offset) profile, making them particularly effective when placed in flared or irregular cracks, or in the marks left by pitons, where a traditional nut would struggle to achieve a stable placement.
Construction and materials
The body is made from individually forged high-strength aluminum, a process that ensures greater structural density compared to die-casting and allows for tighter tolerances in the final shape. The carrying cable is made of braided steel, chosen for its rigidity: this characteristic helps the nut maintain its position during placement and facilitates extraction with a nut tool after passing.
Use and size
- The #10 is one of the largest sizes in the Stopper series, suitable for medium to large cracks.
- Ideal on routes with natural protection in granite, sandstone, or limestone with irregular discontinuities.
