DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Offset Stoppers are passive forged aluminum wedges specifically designed to fit irregular, flared cracks or the typical scars left by pitons in the rock. Unlike classic stoppers with a symmetrical cross-section, the offset geometry — with two sides of different widths — allows for a solid anchor even where a standard wedge would tend to slip or not seat securely.
Construction and Technical Specifications
Each piece is individually forged, a process that guarantees superior density and strength compared to die-casting, as well as dimensional precision that translates into a reliable fit in the rock. The body is made of high-strength aluminum, which keeps the overall weight low without compromising holding power. The steel cable threaded through the wedge completes the tool with a robust connection and a slender profile, useful for retrieving the protection even in deep placements.
When to use them
The size 8 falls into the mid-range of the series, suitable for medium-width cracks commonly encountered on multi-pitch routes or sport climbing on limestone and granite. Offset Stoppers are particularly effective on walls with a history of climbing, where the marks of historical pitons create geometries difficult to protect with traditional wedges. They are available in sizes 7 to 11, allowing for a complete rack to cover a wide range of situations.
