DESCRIPTION
Black Diamond Offset Stoppers were created to solve a specific problem that traditional symmetrical nuts cannot effectively address: placement in flared, irregular cracks or piton scars. The asymmetrical body geometry allows for greater contact with the crack walls compared to a conventional stopper, offering a more solid anchor where the rock is less uniform.
Construction and materials
Each Offset Stopper is individually forged from aluminum alloy, a process that ensures superior structural density compared to casting and optimizes the strength-to-weight ratio. Connection to the cable is via a stainless steel wire rope, resistant to twisting and abrasion even in humid conditions and rock dust. Size 7 is among the smallest in the range, ideal for protection in micro-cracks and technical sections on sport or trad routes.
When to use them
They are particularly effective on exfoliated granite, sandstone, and sculpted limestone where cracks have tapered or irregular profiles. They complement a set of standard nuts, covering those slots that would otherwise remain without reliable protection. Recommended for those who frequent traditional climbing routes with delicate sections or for progression in alpine environments with altered rock.
