DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Camalot C4 in size 0.4 is a double-axle, four-cam friend designed to protect cracks between 10.4 and 16.5 mm. Considered by generations of climbers to be the absolute benchmark among active protection devices, the C4 has undergone a structural redesign that has reduced its weight by 10% compared to the previous version, without compromising certified strength.
Construction and materials
The cams are milled from high-strength aluminum alloy with a sculpted profile that reduces mass concentrated in the head, lowering the center of gravity and improving stability in cracks. The double axle of the cams ensures an optimal contact angle over a wide opening range, reducing the tendency to "walk" (unintentional migration in the rock) even on placements in slightly flared cracks. The flexible steel stem with sheath increases durability under load and facilitates placement in horizontal or oblique cracks. The trigger has been redesigned to ensure a more ergonomic grip even with gloves or fatigued fingers.
