DESCRIPTION
Atomic's Backland 89 SL is a ski touring ski designed for those seeking a real compromise between lightness on the ascent and solid performance on the descent. With a width of 89 mm underfoot, it guarantees sufficient flotation even in fresh snow, without sacrificing responsiveness on firm or supportive snow.
Construction and sustainability
The internal structure incorporates a poplar wood core, chosen for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, combined with reduced amounts of fiberglass and resin compared to previous versions. The sidewalls are made with low environmental impact materials: the result is a 30% reduction in CO₂ emissions throughout the entire life cycle of the product, calculated through a scientific LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) evaluation. A design choice that does not compromise performance, but concretely reduces the environmental impact of production.
Snow performance
- The low weight makes every ascent easier, reducing fatigue on long outings
- The geometry and calibrated stiffness guarantee stability and control on the descent, even on variable terrain
- The 89 mm width offers adequate flotation off-piste without weighing down the equipment
- Recommended for day tours and demanding outings on mixed alpine terrain
The Backland 89 SL is positioned in the high-performance all-round ski touring ski category, suitable for those who cover significant elevation gain and want a ski that performs well both on the approach and the descent.
Sizing
Available lengths: 176, 183 cm. Atomic's recommendations for ski touring: all-round ski about 5 cm shorter than your height, fast & light ski 5 to 10 cm shorter, freeride touring ski equal to your height or up to 5 cm longer. The shorter it is, the more agile it is in turning; the longer it is, the more stable and better it floats.
To pair with: Atomic Skin Multifit 135 mm Ski Touring Skins, Atomic Backland Tour Ski Touring Binding - Skistopper 90 mm, Atomic Backland Sport Men's Ski Touring Boot
