DESCRIPTION
The La Sportiva Free Touring Mittens are technical mittens designed for ski touring and freeriding in extremely cold conditions, where thermal protection must be reconciled with the need for rapid movement and equipment handling. The mitten shape, compared to separate-finger gloves, maximizes heat retention by grouping the fingers in a single compartment, a solution particularly effective on long, wind-exposed ascents.
Construction and materials
The construction combines an abrasion- and water-resistant outer fabric with a thermal inner lining that guarantees insulation even when the glove is partially damp. The palm is reinforced with non-slip material to maintain a secure grip on poles and tools even in snow. The high, adjustable cuff effectively seals the opening, preventing snow from entering during falls or in blizzard conditions.
Field adaptability
- Touch screen compatibility on the thumb for operating GPS devices without removing the glove
- Safety leash on the wrist to prevent losing the mitten during quick changes
- Unisex fit available in multiple sizes to adapt to hands of different sizes
- Compact profile that allows it to be easily stored in a backpack as a backup
The combination of effective insulation and robust construction makes these mittens a concrete choice for high-altitude excursions, where relying on a reliable technical accessory makes the difference between comfort and the risk of frostbite.
