DESCRIPTION
The Black Crows Pilus Orb Freebird is a ski touring skin designed around a membrane system that redefines the relationship between adhesive protection and overall lightness. The ultra-thin membrane interposed between the pile and the adhesive layer performs a dual function: it insulates the glue from external moisture, ensuring 100% waterproofing, and stabilizes adhesive performance even in the presence of significant temperature fluctuations — a common condition during spring outings or days with high altitude changes.
Composition and technology
The pile is made of a mohair-nylon hybrid composition, a technical choice that balances the smooth glide of pure mohair with the durability and abrasion resistance of nylon. The result is a skin that maintains gliding efficiency on long climbs without sacrificing longitudinal grip on steep slopes. The overall structure is built to be robust and long-lasting, resisting the repeated wear typical of intensive use in freeride and high-altitude ski touring.
Key technical features
- 100% waterproof protective membrane between pile and adhesive
- Mohair-nylon hybrid composition for glide and durability
- High resistance to temperature variations and humid conditions
- Orb Freebird attachment system compatible with Black Crows Orb bindings
- Lightweight structure without compromising mechanical robustness
The Pilus Orb Freebird fits into the context of technical ski touring and backcountry freeriding, where adhesive reliability and consistent uphill performance are absolute priorities, regardless of the snow or weather conditions encountered along the way.
