Petzl Summit Ice Axe 59 cm
Petzl Summit Ice Axe 59 cm - Black is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Summit is a classic mountaineering axe with a curved pick, designed for those tackling glacier routes, snow ridges, and steep slopes where self-arrest technique and safe travel are priorities. The curvature of the pick ensures optimal extraction distance from the terrain, reducing interference with the hands when used on hard snow and inclined ice.
Construction and Geometry
The stainless steel head combines an effective point for frontal anchoring with a robust adze for classic flat-footed progression. The anodized aluminum shaft keeps the weight down while ensuring reliable structural rigidity. The length of 59 cm is suitable for those who primarily use the axe as a third point of contact on moderately steep terrain, offering the right balance between maneuverability and leverage during self-arrest maneuvers.
Use and Versatility
- Ideal for glacier mountaineering and AD/D routes on snow and easy mixed terrain
- Suitable for both classic progression and self-arrest techniques
- Compatible with standard leashes for secure wrist attachment on traverses
- The head complies with UIAA/EN 13089 specifications for Type B (Basic) ice axes
With a competitive quality-to-price ratio in the entry-intermediate mountaineering axe segment, the Summit is a solid choice for those who are regularly starting to frequent high mountains without sacrificing a certified and reliable tool.
