DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Summit is a classic mountaineering ice axe with a curved 52 cm blade, designed for those new to ice and steep snow mountaineering who want solid performance at an accessible price. The curve of the shaft is not just an aesthetic detail: it ensures the necessary clearance for working on icy slopes and steep terrain, making every ice axe strike more effective, both when self-belaying and when progressing.
Construction and Technical Performance
The head is made of high-strength steel, with the adze and spike geometrically optimized to ensure good anchoring whether plunging or striking. The aluminum shaft helps keep the overall weight down while maintaining the structural rigidity needed for technical use. The ice axe complies with UIAA standards, the international benchmark for mountaineering equipment.
Versatility on Alpine Terrain
- Suitable for classic mountaineering on snow and moderate ice
- Can be used both as a progression ice axe and as a support on mixed terrain
- 52 cm length suitable for average heights, effective on steep slopes
- Compatible with standard leashes for security on the wall
The Petzl Summit represents a practical choice for those tackling AD/D routes, where a reliable tool is needed without the cost of an extreme mountaineering tool.
