DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Sum'tec is a modular ice axe designed for those who tackle varied terrain, from classic glacier mountaineering to technical mixed climbing, without wanting to carry different specialized equipment for each objective. The key concept is total modularity: all main components are interchangeable without tools, allowing the ice axe to be reconfigured directly on the wall or at base camp in seconds.
Handle and grip system
The adjustable TRIGREST adapts to the hand's morphology and climbing technique, ensuring stable positioning both for piolet-canne on moderate slopes and for traction on vertical ice. The adze — the component referred to in this description — is the element that transforms the Sum'tec into an effective tool for progression on consolidated snow, allowing the full-hand grip typical of classic mountaineering.
Compatibility and technical specifications
- Compatible with Petzl's PUR'ICE and DRY picks for ice and mixed climbing
- Designed for the addition of MASSELOTTES counterweights to modify the tool's balance
- Component replacement without tools
- Construction complies with EN 13089 standards for technical ice axes
The Sum'tec with adze is the ideal configuration for glacier traverses, snow ridges, and approaches on steep slopes, where the adze offers a broad support surface and precise control during self-arrest.
