DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Ride is an ice axe designed for mountaineers tackling glacier crossings and high-altitude excursions where backpack weight is as crucial as safety on the terrain. With a compact and ultralight design, it's barely noticeable to carry, yet makes no compromises when it comes to anchoring on ice.
Technical Construction
The head is made entirely of steel, a material that ensures effective penetration and superior durability compared to lighter alloys. The tip is tapered to 3 mm, a detail that significantly improves its ability to bite into compact ice during self-arrest or anchoring. The shaft is curved, a geometry that facilitates grip during safety maneuvers and reduces effort in emergency ice axe plunges.
When to use the Petzl Ride
- Ski touring and ski touring on glaciers, where the ice axe is a safety accessory to always carry but rarely use
- High-altitude hiking on consolidated snow or discontinuous ice
- Situations where the overall equipment weight is a critical factor
Thanks to its compact structure, the Ride can be easily attached to a backpack or stored in minimal available space, making it a concrete choice for those who want to cover long distances at altitude without sacrificing technical preparation for ice emergencies.
