DESCRIPTION
The Edelrid G-Screamer is an ultralight HMPE (High Modulus Polyethylene) webbing loop with an integrated energy absorber, designed to reduce fall forces in situations where traditional protection is not sufficient to ensure adequate safety margins. Its compact design sets it apart from conventional energy absorbers: with a length of just 15 cm, it fits directly between two locking carabiners like a normal webbing loop, without adding bulk to the belay chain.
Construction and operation
The absorber is sewn inside the loop using a progressive tear system: in the event of a fall, the internal seams open sequentially, dissipating kinetic energy and keeping the stopping force below 6 kN, the critical threshold for preserving physical integrity and protecting equipment on crumbly rock or ice. The HMPE material ensures an extremely low weight while providing high tensile strength, making it ideal where every gram counts.
