DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Stopper #6 is a high-strength aluminum nut, an essential passive protection for those who practice trad climbing and clean climbing. Its double-tapered geometry — longitudinal and transverse — allows precise placement not only in straight cracks, but also in flared or irregular ones, where many conventional nuts lose their hold. The transverse taper, in particular, allows for lateral placement of the nut, significantly expanding protection possibilities on rock.
Construction and identification
The anodized aluminum body has a specific color for each size: the #6 can be spotted at a glance during climbing, reducing gear selection time in critical moments. The twisted stainless steel cable ensures controlled rigidity to facilitate one-handed placement, while maintaining the necessary flexibility to follow the crack's angle without compromising the nut's orientation.
When and how to use it
The Stopper #6 covers a range of medium-small cracks and is particularly effective on granite and sandstone, where cracks tend to have irregular profiles. It is designed to be part of a complete set of Stoppers, along with the other numbers in the series, and represents one of the most reliable and lightweight protections that can be attached to the harness for a trad route. The combination of low weight and structural robustness makes it a well-established choice for both the beginner building their first rack and the experienced alpinist optimizing equipment weight.
