DESCRIPTION
The Ortovox Shovel PRO ALU III is an avalanche shovel designed for those who refuse to compromise between lightness and structural strength. The updated version of one of the most highly regarded classics in the mountaineering sector reinterprets the original design by incorporating state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing processes, with the stated aim of optimizing the ratio between weight and torsional rigidity.
Construction and blade geometry
The anodized aluminum blade is stiffened by reinforcement ribs and raised side edges, which increase structural rigidity without adding unnecessary weight. The integrated connection between the blade and handle significantly simplifies assembly in critical conditions, even when wearing gloves. The aluminum telescopic handle allows the operating length to be adjusted according to the digging depth, ensuring effective ergonomics during extrication operations.
Why choose it for touring and safety
In an avalanche rescue situation, every second counts: the rigidity of the blade translates directly into the volume of snow moved per stroke, reducing digging time compared to more flexible shovels. Thanks to its compact carrying system, the PRO ALU III fits easily into the shovel carrier of technical ski touring backpacks, remaining accessible in just a few seconds. It is a shovel suitable for both professional and recreational use, ideal for ski touring, freeriding, and off-piste activities in snowy environments with a high risk of avalanches.
