DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Croll L is a ventral ascender designed for rope ascent in technical vertical environments, from caving and mountaineering to rope access. It is worn at the front, attached to the chest harness, and works in conjunction with a manual ascender to ensure efficient and safe progression along the rope.
Construction and compatibility
The body is made of anodized aluminum, with a stainless steel cam treated to resist prolonged wear. The L (Large) version is optimized for ropes with a diameter between 11 and 13 mm, including those swollen by water absorption or particularly stiff, conditions common in caving environments or winter outings. The enlarged throat significantly reduces friction on the rope during progression, limiting wear on the outer sheath.
Ergonomics and safety
- Multiple connection holes allow the position of the ascender to be adjusted relative to the center of the body, optimizing posture during ascent
- The asymmetrical-tooth cam ensures a firm grip on the rope even under dynamic loading conditions
- Facilitated side opening for inserting the rope even while wearing gloves
- CE EN 12841 Type B and NFPA certification, suitable for both sports and professional use
During ascent in a complete system — paired with the Petzl Ascension or similar ascenders — the Croll L manages the ventral load, leaving the hands free to operate the upper ascender, making vertical progression smooth even on long pitches or deep shafts.
