DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Basic is a manual locking device designed for ascending fixed ropes and for use as a progress capture device in hauling systems. Its compact shape makes it particularly easy to handle, ensuring a secure grip even during prolonged work or when wearing gloves.
Construction and mechanism
The body is made of anodized aluminum, with a grooved serrated rope clamp that ensures a reliable grip on the rope in all conditions. The locking mechanism is unidirectional: it slides freely upwards and locks instantly when loaded downwards. The large lower hole allows cord carabiners and foot loops to be easily attached, simplifying the setup of foot-powered ascending systems.
Compatibility and use
- Compatible with ropes from 8 to 13 mm
- Lightweight at 105 g
- Breaking load: 4 kN (rope clamp), 6 kN (lower hole)
- Certifications: CE EN 567, UIAA
The Basic is suitable for a variety of applications: from ascending large faces with a matching handle system to use in alpine rescue or caving as a component of a pulley system. Its versatility and compact size make it a reliable addition to the technical kit of anyone who regularly works or moves on fixed ropes.
