DESCRIPTION
The Atomic Backland 88 is an all-terrain ski designed for those who tackle varied terrain, from groomed slopes to off-piste snowy slopes, without compromising on a concrete sustainability profile. Its development stems from a scientific life cycle assessment (LCA), which allowed for a 30% reduction in production waste and equivalent CO₂ emissions compared to the 2021 Backland 85 model — a measurable result, not a statement of intent.
Construction and materials
The Backland 88 features an 88 mm tip width profile, which offers the right compromise between flotation on fresh snow and handling precision on compact snow. The structure is designed to keep weight down — an essential feature in ski touring — without compromising torsional response on descents. The low-impact design translates into construction choices that limit material waste already at the production stage.
What is it suitable for?
The Backland 88 is the right choice for ski touring outings on mixed terrain, where uphill sections with skins alternate with descents on variable snow. The versatility of the geometry makes it effective in both alpine environments and on more demanding routes, covering a range of uses from winter hiking to challenging outings on open slopes. Those looking for a capable ski that is also produced with a verified environmental approach will find a concrete answer in the Backland 88.
Fit
Available lengths: 169, 183 cm. Atomic's recommendations for ski touring: all-round skis about 5 cm shorter than your height, fast & light skis 5 to 10 cm shorter, freeride touring skis equal to your height or up to 5 cm longer. The shorter it is, the more agile it is when turning around; the longer it is, the more stable it is and the better it floats.
To pair with: Atomic Skin Multifit 135 mm Ski Touring Skins, Atomic Backland Tour Ski Touring Binding - Skistopper 90 mm, Atomic Backland Expert Men's Ski Touring Boot
