DESCRIPTION
The Beal Opera 8.5mm Unicore is a single-strand rope for sport climbing and mountaineering that sets a precise technical benchmark: at 48 grams per meter, it is the first single-strand rope in the world to drop below the 50 g/m threshold, combining a diameter of just 8.5 mm with certified strength for use as a single rope.
Technologies and construction
At the heart of the design is Unicore technology, which bonds the core and sheath into a single compact body: if the sheath is partially cut, the rope maintains its structural integrity and does not separate, a critical factor on exposed walls or during rappels over sharp edges. The DRY Cover treatment waterproofs the fibers of the outer sheath, reducing water absorption in rainy, snowy, or icy conditions and limiting the weight gain that would make the rope stiff and difficult to handle. The reduced impact force results in less load on protection, anchors, and the body in the event of a fall.
