DESCRIPTION
The Totem Cam 1.80 Orange is a four-cam friend designed for traditional climbing, recognizable by its patented Direct Loading Camming Device (DLCD) system. This mechanism allows the load to act directly on the cams rather than being transmitted through the central axle, increasing holding power compared to conventional designs and reducing leverage forces on rock faces.
Technical Features
The cams are made of aerospace aluminum alloy and feature an asymmetrical profile optimized to maximize contact with the rock even in irregular cracks. The rigid steel stem ensures structural solidity while keeping weight down. The 1.80 size's opening range (orange color) covers cracks between 37.2 mm and 64.0 mm, making it suitable for a wide and versatile range of use. The retraction handle is ergonomic and allows for precise operation even with gloves or cold fingers.
Use and Reliability
The Totem Cam 1.80 is the typical choice for medium-sized cracks on granite, sandstone, and limestone. Thanks to the optimized cam angle (20° friction angle), it offers stable holding even in slightly inclined placements or in cracks that narrow downwards. The DLCD system reduces the risk of walking (cam migration) during progression, a crucial feature in long pitches with distant protection. It is CE EN 12276 certified for friction devices.
