DESCRIPTION
The Petzl William Ball-Lock is a large capacity pear-shaped carabiner, designed for belaying, anchoring, and rappelling maneuvers where compatibility with multiple systems is essential. The asymmetric pear shape ensures stable positioning of devices – from GriGris to ATCs – keeping the carabiner always correctly oriented at the working point.
Construction and technology
The body is made of high-strength aluminum, with a longitudinal strength of 25 kN, transverse strength of 8 kN, and open gate strength of 9 kN. The symmetrical profile allows for efficient work with either side of the carabiner. Keylock technology eliminates the traditional hooked nose: the gate closes flush with the body, drastically reducing the risk of snagging on ropes, anchors, and quick links.
Ball-Lock closing system
The Ball-Lock version uses a two-movement automatic locking system: press the spherical button and open the gate. This mechanism minimizes accidental openings even in stressful conditions or when wearing gloves, while maintaining rapid maneuverability compared to three-movement systems. The sleeve does not require manual screwing, eliminating the risk of forgetting to lock it.
