DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Offset Stopper #9 are aluminum alloy chocks designed to protect irregular cracks and old piton scars where classic, symmetrically shaped stoppers struggle to find stable purchase. The asymmetrical geometry is at the heart of the design: the two faces of the chock have different profiles, so the same piece can adapt to variable constrictions, significantly increasing placement options on compromised rock or non-parallel walls.
Construction and Identification
The body is machined from anodized aluminum alloy, with a size-specific colored finish that allows you to identify the correct number directly on the quickdraw, without having to read engravings while on the wall. The braided stainless steel cable ensures tensile strength and minimal slippage in the quickdraw loop, maintaining the chock's orientation after placement.
Free Climbing and Aid Climbing Use
- Suitable for irregular, conical, or non-parallel cracks where a standard stopper would be unstable.
- Particularly effective on friable rock or rock marked by old bolts and pitons, where the offset geometry compensates for wall imperfections.
- The double curve of the profile allows for two different orientations with the same piece, reducing the number of protections needed.
- Integrates directly with the Black Diamond Stopper series to build a consistent, color-coded rack.
The #9 covers a medium-to-large size range within the Offset series, suitable for cracks requiring a chock with a more extended contact surface compared to smaller numbers in the same line.
