DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Camalot Z4 in size 0.1 is a single-stemmed cam designed for protection in very thin cracks, where precise placement is crucial. The proprietary RigidFlex technology is at the heart of its design: the stem remains rigid during insertion, ensuring precise control even in the most challenging sections, and becomes flexible once placed, absorbing rope movements without the cam walking or shifting from the anchor.
Technology and Construction
Unlike traditional flexible stems that tend to migrate out of position under rope action, the RigidFlex system combines stability during placement with dynamic adaptability under load. This significantly reduces the risk of the device shifting, a critical factor in protection on horizontal or slightly inclined cracks. The dual-axle cams ensure an optimized expansion range for the 0.1 size, covering cracks in the smallest millimeter range of the Camalot lineup.
Use and Application
The 0.1 size is aimed at those tackling very thin cracks on granite, sandstone, or limestone, typical of technical crack climbing and high-difficulty routes. Its low weight and single-pull trigger facilitate one-handed placement even with pumped fingers. UIAA/CE certified, the Camalot Z4 0.1 integrates perfectly into a set of quickdraws for trad climbing or big walls.
