DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Laser Speed is a high-performance ice screw designed for mixed ice climbing and competitive dry tooling, but equally effective in traditional mountaineering use. Its geometry is optimized to quickly penetrate any ice condition, from glassy to granular.
Construction and materials
The body is made of thin-walled steel tubing, a choice that balances structural rigidity and weight containment: the 13 cm version weighs approximately 95 g. The three-toothed tip allows for precise entry and reduces initial resistance to insertion, even on uneven surfaces or hard ice. The wide-pitch helical thread ensures rapid advancement with each turn.
Integrated screwing system
The integrated folding crank is the heart of the system: it opens with one hand and offers a calibrated lever arm to complete the screwing in a few seconds, without having to remove gloves or use external tools. This detail translates into a concrete advantage on the wall, where every second counts and equipment management with cold hands must be immediate.
