The Black Crows Ova Freebird is a free touring ski designed for those seeking high performance both uphill and downhill, without compromise. Unlike many ski mountaineering skis focused solely on weight, the Ova Freebird maintains a decisive and responsive flex that brings it closer to the behavior of an advanced all-mountain ski, while remaining manageable even on challenging terrain.
Construction and Technologies
The paulownia and bamboo wood core combines structural lightness with controlled torsion, ensuring a lively response throughout the turn. The sandwich construction with carbon and glass fiber reinforcements helps reduce overall weight without sacrificing high-speed stability. The pronounced front rocker facilitates entry into turns on fresh and soft snow, while the semi-rockered tail section ensures precise and secure finish.
On the Field
Thanks to its medium-long turning radius, the Ova Freebird is effective on steep off-piste slopes and on transformed snow, where its liveliness translates into real dynamism rather than nervousness. It is ideal for technical itineraries where long ascents require a lightweight ski, but the descent demands behavior and confidence. The waist width of approximately 88 mm places it in a versatile segment, suitable for powder snow as well as consolidated spring snow.
