DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Glacier is a classic ice axe with a straight shaft, designed for glacier hiking and high altitudes where snow can be firm or icy. With a length of 60 cm, it represents a versatile size suitable for a wide range of heights and moderately sloped terrain.
Construction and Materials
The head is made with a stainless steel spike and adze: the spike ensures reliable grip for self-arrests on hard snow, while the adze is sharpened at the end to effectively cut into compact ice. The slightly curved profile of the head is designed to adapt to the natural geometry of the palm, improving grip when used as a walking axe on snowy terrain. The straight shaft made of light alloy helps to keep the overall weight down, making it a suitable choice for long approaches and glacier traverses.
