The Wild Country Friend 4.0 is a four-lobe cam designed for large crack protection, with an expansion range covering openings from 80.2 mm to 133.5 mm. It is one of the most iconic pieces of rock climbing equipment: the camming lobe design, introduced by Wild Country in the late 1970s, remains the technical benchmark in the industry today.
Mechanics and Materials
The mechanism is based on the spiral logarithm principle: the lobes rotate around a common axis, maintaining a constant friction angle against the crack wall, ensuring hold even under dynamic loads. The body is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, with a rigid stem that ensures stability in parallel or slightly flared cracks. The stainless steel trigger is compatible with standard carabiners.
