DESCRIPTION
The EDELRID HMS Bulletproof Screw is an HMS carabiner with a screw-gate that solves one of the most common problems in intensive use for belaying: the progressive wear of the contact area with the rope. EDELRID's solution consists of an integrated steel insert at the apex, the area of the carabiner subject to the most friction during top-roping. Thanks to this reinforcement, the aluminum alloy of the main body is protected from abrasion, eliminating the formation of burrs and sharp edges that could, over time, damage the rope or render the carabiner unusable.
Construction and Mechanism
The body is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, which ensures a low weight compared to carabiners made entirely of steel, while maintaining the mechanical performance necessary for belaying and top-roping. The locking system is a screw-gate with a Keylock mechanism: the snag-free nose of the gate eliminates the risk of accidental snagging on bolts, slings, or belay chains, making clipping and unclipping operations smoother, even with gloves.
