DESCRIPTION
The Black Diamond Capitan was designed to meet the demands of big wall climbing, where belays stack up, hours pass, and the helmet needs to remain reliable from the first pitch to the last. The construction combines an EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam with an internal EPS disk: the former absorbs repeated impacts while maintaining its shape, while the latter handles more violent impacts by dissipating energy. The two-piece ABS outer shell completes the structure with robust yet lightweight protection.
Extended Coverage and Protection
Compared to many sport climbing helmets, the Capitan offers extended side and back coverage, designed for scenarios where dangers don't just come from above: falling debris during rappels, protection at exposed belays, and long traverses on the wall.
