DESCRIPTION
The BEAL Jammy Kevlar 5.5 mm is a pre-knotted aramid fiber (Kevlar) cord designed for use as an emergency friction hitch and aid in rope progression in mountaineering. The 35 cm version is the most compact size in the range, suitable for those who prioritize lightness and minimal bulk in their safety kit.
Construction and Materials
The cord is made with an aramid fiber core, known for its extremely high strength-to-weight ratio and superior thermal stability compared to traditional nylon. The polyamide sheath protects the core fibers from abrasion and improves grip on the rope, ensuring a constant coefficient of friction even on small diameter ropes. The 5.5 mm diameter allows for the creation of friction hitches—particularly the Prusik and Machard—that grip effectively on single, half, and twin ropes without the need for special adjustments.
