DESCRIPTION
The Wild Country Friend 0.5 is a camming protection device for traditional climbing, a direct descendant of the invention that redefined safety on the rock face over the last fifty years. The 0.5 size falls into the small to medium range, ideal for narrow cracks and compact dihedrals where reliable protection makes the difference between a safe pitch and an unprotected section.
Construction and Mechanism
The heart of the Friend is its four independent cam lobes with a lobed action: each cam rotates around its own axle and adapts autonomously to the irregularities of the rock, ensuring an even distribution of force even in non-parallel cracks. The body is made of high-strength aluminum alloy, with a rigid trigger that allows for precise placement even with a gloved hand or in stressful situations. The flexible stainless steel stem absorbs dynamic loads and reduces the risk of leverage (walking) in horizontal cracks.
