DESCRIPTION
The Petzl Laser Speed is a high-performance ice screw designed for technical mountaineering, where every second of belaying counts. The geometry of the three-toothed tip optimizes penetration into the ice from the very first contact, reducing the force required for insertion on both compact ice and more fragile, crystalline surfaces.
Construction and Materials
The body of the screw is made of thin-walled steel tubing, a construction choice that ensures the structural rigidity needed to withstand fall loads without sacrificing lightness. This compromise between strength and low weight is one of its distinctive features compared to softer alloy screws. The external threading is designed to bite effectively in variable conditions, from alpine ice to waterfall ice.
Integrated Screwing System
The foldable crank integrated into the screw body eliminates the need for additional tools and allows for full screwing with one hand, leaving the other free for stability. The optimized lever arm reduces rotational effort, significantly speeding up placement times even with thick gloves or cold fingers. The folded position of the crank does not interfere with transport on a gear loop.
