The Petzl Laser Speed is a high-performance ice screw designed for technical mountaineering and mixed dry-tooling, where placement speed and structural reliability make all the difference on the wall. The three-toothed tip geometry ensures clean and progressive penetration in any ice condition, from compact boilerplate to granular high-altitude ice, reducing the initial insertion effort.
Construction and Weight
The body of the screw is made of high-strength steel tubing, a technical choice that balances structural rigidity and weight containment: the tubular shape eliminates unnecessary material while maintaining load capacity. The optimized external thread pitch facilitates constant advancement into the ice, without jamming even in the presence of air bubbles or density variations.
Integrated Screwing System
The integrated foldable crank is the element that distinguishes this screw in operational management: the calculated lever arm allows for completion of screwing with just a few quick wrist turns, without having to pull out additional tools or lose contact with the wall. When not in use, the crank folds flush with the body, eliminating risks of snagging with the rope or equipment.
