DESCRIPTION
The PETZL ICE pick is a specialized replacement head for dry-tooling and technical ice climbing, designed to replace or upgrade the pick of compatible ice axes. The sharp 3.3 mm tip ensures immediate and precise penetration even in compact ice at low temperatures, reducing the effort required for planting and conserving energy on more demanding pitches.
Geometry and ice performance
The curvature of the pick is designed to offer a stable and reliable hook, both on vertical icefalls and on mixed ice/rock structures. The optimized shape of the tip also facilitates extraction with clean and controlled movements, a detail that is far from secondary during a climb where every move counts. The pick's cross-section is designed to limit the "explosion" effect on brittle ice, better distributing impact stresses.
Compatibility and assembly
The ICE pick is compatible with PETZL SUM'TEC, QUARK, NOMIC, and ERGONOMIC ice axes, making it a practical solution for those who want to customize their tool based on the day's objective — icefalls, technical mixed climbing, or demanding mountaineering. The attachment system is the same as other picks in the range, allowing for quick replacement even in cold conditions. Replacing the pick instead of the entire ice axe also extends the life of the tool and reduces costs over time.
