DESCRIPTION
The PETZL Croll L is a chest ascender designed for rope ascent in technical vertical environments, from caving to mountaineering, and rope access work. It is worn at the front, attached to the chest harness, and works in synergy with a hand ascender to ensure efficient and safe progression along the rope.
Construction and Compatibility
The body is made of anodized aluminum, with the stainless steel cam treated to resist prolonged wear. The L (Large) version is optimized for ropes with a diameter between 11 and 13 mm, including those swollen due to water absorption or particularly rigid, conditions frequently encountered in caving environments or during winter excursions. The enlarged rope groove significantly reduces friction on the rope during ascent, limiting wear on the outer sheath.
Ergonomics and Safety
- Multiple connection holes allow for adjusting the ascender's position relative to the center of the body, optimizing posture during ascent
- The asymmetric tooth cam ensures a firm grip on the rope even under dynamic load conditions
- Easy side opening for rope insertion, even with gloves

When ascending in a complete system—paired with the PETZL Ascension or similar ascenders—the Croll L manages the chest load, leaving hands free to operate the upper ascender, making vertical progression fluid even on long pitches or deep shafts.
