DESCRIPTION
The CAMP Knifeblade 90mm is an ultra-thin piton, specifically designed for extremely narrow cracks where traditional pitons cannot fit. Its "knifeblade" geometry allows it to penetrate millimeter-wide cracks in granite, limestone, or any rock formation with slender, barely pronounced fissures.
Construction and Technical Specifications
The 90mm length makes it suitable for medium-depth cracks, offering a solid hold even when the rock material is limited. The blade is made from high-strength steel, which ensures the controlled deformation necessary for proper seating in the crack, while also providing reliable retention under load. The piton head features two distinct holes: this solution allows the carabiner attachment point to be chosen based on the optimal angle relative to the direction of load, while also reducing the overall weight of the piece.
When and How to Use It
The Knifeblade 90mm is the right tool when faced with a section of wall with thin, deep cracks, typical of certain alpine or big wall routes where artificial aid climbing requires precision in selecting sizes. Use with a rock hammer is essential for proper placement: the blade must be hammered until a progressively higher tone is heard, indicating a secure fit. It should be carried on the wall as part of an assorted rack of pitons, along with thinner and thicker blades to cover variations in cracks along the route.
