DESCRIPTION
Black Diamond Mercury Mitts are mountaineering and ski touring mitts designed for severe conditions where protection from cold and moisture cannot be compromised. The two-component construction—an outer shell and a removable inner liner—allows them to adapt to high-altitude excursions, ski days with varying temperatures, or prolonged winter approaches.
Construction and materials
The outer shell is made of four-way stretch fabric, which guarantees freedom of movement during technical maneuvers. The waterproof barrier is provided by the BD.dry™ membrane, integrated directly into the outer layer, while the Empel DWR treatment—formulated without PFC fluorocarbons—protects the surface from water absorption in conditions of rain, wet snow, or melted ice.
Insulation and versatility
- The removable inner liner is padded with PrimaLoft Gold Cross Core, a synthetic insulator that retains its thermal properties even when wet and dries quickly.
- The liner can be used separately as a light glove during less exposed phases or breaks.
- The mitt system reduces heat dispersion compared to separate-finger gloves, concentrating heat during the most critical moments.
The result is a winter accessory suitable for those facing changing conditions, where the ability to regulate the heat worn—by removing or reinserting the liner—makes the difference between comfort and hypothermia of the hands.
