The BEAL Jammy Kevlar 5.5 mm is a pre-knotted aramid (Kevlar) cord designed for those who use self-locking knots in ice climbing, mountaineering, and advanced rope maneuvers. The 60 cm version is suitable for use on both single and double ropes, offering flexibility in safety configurations.
Construction and materials
The core is made of aramid fibers (Kevlar), known for their high tensile strength and abrasion resistance, while the flexible polyamide sheath ensures an effective grip even on small diameter ropes. The 5.5 mm diameter is calibrated to generate optimal friction in the most common self-locking knots — primarily Prusik and Machard — while maintaining sufficient smoothness to unlock the knot even after a load.
