DESCRIPTION
The BEAL Jammy Kevlar 5.5 mm is a pre-sewn cord designed for creating self-locking knots in climbing and mountaineering. The 50 cm version comes already sewn into a loop, ready for use without the need for additional knots that could compromise the system's strength.
Construction and Materials
The core of aramid fibers (Kevlar) guarantees high resistance to the heat generated by friction on the rope during a crevasse rescue or a self-rescue maneuver. The outer sheath of polyamide increases overall flexibility and improves grip, allowing the knot to lock effectively even on small diameter ropes, starting from those measuring 8.5 mm used in dry tooling and modern mountaineering.
Compatibility and Use
- Suitable for the main self-locking knots: Prusik, Machard and Valdotain Tresse
- Can be used on one or two ropes for different rescue configurations
- The 5.5 mm diameter ensures the correct ratio with ropes from 8.5 mm upwards
- 50 cm length suitable for both rope ascent and crevasse rescue maneuvers
In a glacier self-rescue situation or during a double rope abseil, the Jammy allows you to quickly build a reliable ascender without having to search for a loose cord in your backpack. The sewn construction eliminates the weak point of the joining knot and simplifies operations with gloves or in cold conditions.
